To this day, persons with disabilities in the European Union are systematically excluded from the open labour market.

MEP Katrin Langensiepen (Greens/EFA) just presented her draft report in the EMPL Committee of the European Parliament on the equal treatment of persons with disabilities in employment.

The draft report deplores the current situation and makes clear that Member States and the European Union are not meeting their commitments to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

As a result of a cooperative work with several disability and human rights related NGOs, academics and the European Network of Equality Bodies, the draft report presents different measures that should be taken on a European and national level in order to guarantee work in diversity.

In parallel to this, the European Commission is currently drafting the new post-2020 Disability Strategy, which ambition will define the outcome for persons with disabilities in the European Union for the next years. Which points should be included in the post-2020 disability strategy regarding employment?

The event attempting to answer this question will be hosted by MEP Katrin Langensiepen (Greens/EFA) and have many guest speakers from various organisations: Inmaculada Porrero Placencia from the European Commission, Robert Jan Uhl from the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), speakers from NGOs, the Equinet as well as from the academia and we will also give the floor to MEP Marc Angel (S&D) and MEP Adam Kosa (EPP).

The following organisations will be present and give their input:

European Disability Forum

Autism-Europe

European Blind Union

European Network on Independent Living

European Union of the Deaf

Mental Health Europe

Bundesarbeitsgemeinschaft Inklusionsfirmen

Equinet - Dr. Jone Elizondo Urrestarazu

National University of Ireland Maynooth - Dr. Delia Ferri

University of Leeds - Dr. Mark Priestley

We are looking forward to a lively debate!
