Lage der EU: Von der Leyen redet – jetzt müssen endlich Taten her!
Zur heutigen Rede zur Lage der Union von Kommissionspräsidentin Ursula von der Leyen erklärt Katrin Langensiepen, Europaabgeordnete der Grünen/EFA:
„Die heutige Rede der Kommissionspräsidentin hat gezeigt, dass Europa in schwierigen Zeiten nicht nur wirtschaftlich und geopolitisch, sondern auch sozial handlungsfähig ist. Ursula von der Leyen hat die Bedeutung von Zusammenhalt, und Gerechtigkeit zwar betont. Das ist ein wichtiges Signal an Millionen von Europäer*innen, die sich ein solidarisches Europa wünschen. Die kommenden Monate werden entscheidend sein, um den heutigen Worten Taten folgen zu lassen. Wir stehen bereit, gemeinsam mit der Kommission dafür zu sorgen, dass kein Mensch in Europa zurückgelassen wird.
Wenn wir Barrieren abbauen, Chancen eröffnen und Vielfalt als Stärke begreifen, wird Europa gerechter und stärker.
Die Reaktionen im Plenarsaal haben gezeigt, wie sehr diese Botschaft polarisiert. Die lauten Zwischenrufe von der Rechten gingen in der Zustimmung der großen Mehrheit unter. Gerade dieser Widerstand macht deutlich, wie wichtig es ist, unsere europäische Demokratie zu schützen und Menschenrechte sowie soziale Teilhabe entschlossen voranzubringen.
Besonders begrüßenswert ist, dass Ursula von der Leyen auch die Themen bezahlbarer Wohnraum und sozial gerechter Klimaschutz angesprochen hat. Nur wenn ökologische Verantwortung und soziale Gerechtigkeit Hand in Hand gehen, kann Europa stark, inklusiv und nachhaltig bleiben. Investitionen in sozialen Wohnungsbau und ambitionierte Klimaschutzmaßnahmen sind entscheidend, damit die Europäische Union ihre globale Rolle als Vorreiterin für eine gerechte und nachhaltige Zukunft behaupten kann. Regarding today’s State of the Union address by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Katrin Langensiepen, Member of the European Parliament for the Greens/EFA group, states:
“Today’s speech by the Commission President showed that Europe is capable of acting not only economically and geopolitically in difficult times, but also socially. Ursula von der Leyen did emphasize the importance of solidarity and justice. That’s an important signal to millions of Europeans who are hoping for a more united and supportive Europe.
The coming months will be crucial to ensure that today’s words are followed by action. We stand ready to work with the Commission to ensure that no one in Europe is left behind.
If we break down barriers, create opportunities, and embrace diversity as a strength, Europe will become fairer and stronger.
The reactions in the plenary chamber showed how polarizing this message is. The loud heckling from the right was drowned out by the approval of the large majority. This opposition only underlines how important it is to protect our European democracy and to actively promote human rights and social inclusion.
It is particularly welcome that Ursula von der Leyen also addressed the issues of affordable housing and socially just climate action. Only when ecological responsibility and social justice go hand in hand can Europe remain strong, inclusive, and sustainable.
